  • Attendees showed a strong connection and engagement with their farms, their Awa and the wider environment. 

  • The community has seen an improvement in their Awa over the last 30 years, this is due to ongoing conservation efforts carried out by the community 

  • Tupua te Kawa values are relatable, there’s a shared understanding and connection. 

  • Landowners express eagerness to engage in environmentally responsible practices such as limiting stock access to waterways and preserving wetlands, support and resourcing required to realise this. 

  • Access to funding could alleviate the financial constraints and encourage more landowners to participate in conservation initiatives.

  • Landowners face challenges due to stringent consenting requirements for projects aimed at creating or enhancing wetlands.

 

OHAKUNE – TE PAE TATA – 29 JANUARY 2024
